The Document Views drill-down shows a per-document list of every view event: who opened it, how long they spent reading, and when. Use it to understand individual client engagement and decide when to follow up.

Opening the view details

Go to Analytics

Open Analytics from the left sidebar.

Find the document

In the Top Documents table, click any row to open the view details for that document.If the document you want is not in the top 10, use the Search all documents… box in the top-right corner of the table. Start typing the document name and results appear within a second. Click the document from the search results.

Review the view list

A panel slides open showing every recorded view for that document. Each row displays:
  • Viewer — the viewer’s name and email address, or “Anonymous” if neither is available
  • Duration — how long they had the document open
  • Viewed — how long ago the view occurred (e.g., “3 hours ago”)

Understanding the data

Viewer identity

Docsiv identifies viewers using the name and email address they provided when accessing the document. If a recipient opens a shared link without entering their details, they appear as Anonymous.

View duration

Duration is the total time from when the document was opened to when it was closed or the browser tab went inactive. It is shown as seconds (30s), minutes (5 min), or hours (1.5 hrs). A duration of means the session ended before a meaningful duration could be recorded — for example, if the viewer closed the tab immediately.

What counts as a view

A view event is recorded each time a unique session opens the document. If the same person opens the document twice, two separate view events are recorded.
Enable External only before reviewing views with a client. This filters out views by your own team members so you only see client-side activity.

Following up with clients

View data tells you more than just whether a document was opened:
  • No views after sharing — the link may not have reached the client. Check the email address and consider resending.
  • Short duration — the client may have glanced at the document but not read it in full. A quick check-in call can help move things forward.
  • Multiple views by the same person — signals high interest or active review. This is often a good moment to reach out and answer questions.
  • Views from unexpected emails — the client may have forwarded the document to a colleague or decision-maker.
The drill-down shows up to 50 view events per document. For documents with very high traffic, the most recent 50 views are displayed.
